View from Saint-Jean-De-Luz

2024

Ink and watercolor on paper

8.5 x 6.5 inches

I painted this watercolor while staying in the Basque town of Saint-Jean-De Luz. One of several pieces I created over the two week period, these paintings are special because they represent part of my Basque heritage.

The tides had huge variations: one moment the waves were huge and crashing and a few hours later they receded to reveal a sea of rocks. I climbed down the sea wall steps and sat on the rocks while painting, so I felt like part of the environment I was capturing.
